A yeogwan is a very simple, budget accommodation. Usually guests have a small room, possibly with a bathroom. It may be an ondol room - heated floor with a mattress (yeo) - or Western style with a bed. The signs will be in Korean or often have a "steam" sign above them, like a sauna.
Love hotels or 'sarang bangs' are clean, comfortable mid-rage hotel rooms that may be rented for the hour or night. They are super comfortable, usually having a bigscreen TV, cable, internet, fridge, jacuzzi and DVDs for rent. Most cost around 50 000, but check-in may be quite late. Love hotels can be distinguised by their large plastic flaps over their driveway to protect their visitors privacy and may also have a 'steam' sauna sign.
For more about love motels, see Cultural Insights on Korea (half way down the page).
