queer in korea: Korean Queer Community and Culture

Queer Culture

Some Queer Korean Films

Memento Mori : a teenage girls' horror flick that has to rank as the most inventive and eerily beautiful film of the year.
Road Movie: Even though it ignited controversy among Korean filmgoers for its explicit depiction of gay sexuality, Road Movie is simply an excellent film, with or without sex scenes.
Broken Branches: embeds gay issues in a family melodrama.
Yellow Hair: initially banned, then edited and several scenes blurred, this film tells the story of two teenage girls who have rejected the sometimes suffocating normality of Korean society.
The Camelia Project: Three Queer Stories at Bogil Island: a unique omnibus collaboration focused on increasing the visibility of gay men in Korean society. Composed of three films by three different directors, each part is linked by the setting, Bogil Island.
