Who are you?
Seoulsisters is, as far as we can tell, the first and only 'official' group for English-speaking queer and queer-friendly women in Korea. Over the past decade, it has grown from an informal collection of women to a tried and true organization that includes almost 200 women from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, coming together online and in person to meet new friends, discuss queer-themed topics and experience life in Korea.
What do you do?
We meet twice a month on the first and third Saturdays. One meeting is usually at a club or bar and the other meeting is an organized event at a public place, a cultural tour, hike, sporting activity or discussion group. For more information about our meetings, contact us.
We also run a listserv for members to post messages to other members, and a website and an online forum for members and non-members to connect and communicate in a cyber environment.
Many of our members organize additional events over and above the regular monthly meetings. In the past, this has included a book launch [link to www.homosaywhat.ca], a drag king show, cultural tours, museum trips, art gallery visits and holiday parties.
When and where do you meet?
We meet every first and third Saturday of each month. The first Saturday is usually a club or bar night; the third is a cultural tour, planned event or otherwise 'non-bar' event. Details about and directions to the meetings usually get posted on the forum and to members inboxes about a week before the scheduled date. If you would like to receive an email with meeting information, please contact us at info@seoulsisters.org
How many people come to a meeting?
That depends on the time of year and the type of event. Usually there are about 25-40 women at each club or bar night. Attendance at other events varies.
Is this group affiliated with Belles of Queerea (BOQ)?
Actually, we are Belles of Queerea! We recently changed our name back to Seoulsisters, the original name of the group. We have also been known as Sappho ROK.

Who can join the group?
Anyone who identifies as a woman, is comfortable in a queer or queer-friendly environment and can use English as a means of communication is welcome to join the group. Most of our members are expatriates from the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, but our membership does not end there. We also have a number of bi-lingual Korean members who join in the fun and help us navigate our way through culture and language. We also have members from Turkey, Russia, Israel, Belgium and a few other countries.
Can men join the group?
At this time, we do not include men in our membership, although we rarely exclude them at our events or meetings. We do recognize that some of our members have husbands and/or boyfriends, as well as a plethora of fabulous gay boyfriends, and we welcome their presence as long as they are comfortable with our predominantly women-centred environment.
Some rare events do occur at women-only spaces. We will always take care to mention this in our communication to members.
**Events that are organized by members but do not fall under the purview of the Seoulsisters planning committee/coordinators may be women-only events. This is up to the discretion of the person organizing these events.**
How do I join the group?
To participate in our online community, point your browser to www.seoulsisters.org/forum and register to use the site. Voila!
To meet us in person, send us an email at info@seoulsisters.org and we will make sure you get directions to our next meeting. Come out to a meeting and introduce yourself to a coordinator!
I want to get involved. How can I volunteer?
There are always projects and planning that require a host of volunteers. The best way to get involved is to drop by one our monthly planning committee meetings. We meet every third Sunday. For details, please contact us at: info@seoulsisters.org. If you live out of town, or can't make it to a planning meeting, please contact us with your ideas and suggestions.
We are always looking for planners, web designers, Korean-speakers to help us make reservations and communicate with our Korean friends, writers (for the website) and forum moderators. And of course, a whole bunch of strong heads and hands to help brainstorm
new events and organize events.

It's part of this website, http://www.seoulsisters.org/forum
How do I register for the forum?
Please point your browser to www.seoulsisters.org/forum and click on the 'register' button at the top of the screen. Follow the instructions to become a member of the forum so that you can post messages.
Can just anyone access the forum?
Yes and no. Only registered users can access the forum, but anyone with an email address can register. So, please keep this in mind when posting sensitive information and use common internet sense when providing details about your personal life -- they may be viewed by people you do not know.
I'm a member of Seoulsisters but I can't access the members-only forum!
There is a members-only forum that is accessible to only members of the Seoulsisters listsev. But because the forum is a separate community and does not 'know' if you are a listserv member or not, you will not be automatically granted access to the forum.
**In order to access the members-only forum, you must register for the forum, activate your membership, and send me an email with your forum username and the email address that you use to receive Seoulsisters emails.**
What is the listserv?
Seoulsisters is proud to host a listserv where members can post messages to other members, advertise buy & sell items, communicate upcoming cultural events, seek advice or help, or simply touch base with other queer women in Korea. This listserv is closed to members-only.
How do I join the listserv?
In order to have your name added to the listserv, you must attend a Seoulsisters meeting and introduce yourself to a coordinator. This helps us keep the list a friendly and safe place for members and ensures that all messages that are sent out are received with kind ears. If you would like more information about the listserv or need clarification about our policy, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@seoulsisters.org
How do I send an email to the listserv?
Just send an email to thelist@seoulsisters.org.
Please note, only members who have been added to the listserv can send messages to the list.
I'm not receiving emails from the list?
There are a number of reasons that you may not be receiving messages from the listserv.
1. Some mail programs automatically send emails from unknown senders to the junkmail or trash folders. Please check there first before contacting us.
2. Have you recently changed your email address? You must contact us at info@seoulsisters.org and let us know your old and new email address so that we can update our files.
3. In September 2005, our server underwent a catastrophic failure and the listserv members were lost in cyberspace. Eek! We've managed to recover most of our email addresses, but you could still be missing from the list if you haven't seen any messages since that time. Please contact us at info@seoulsisters.org if you think this has happened to you.
4. Only members can send and receive messages on the listserv. Please see "How do I join the listserv?" for more information.
How do I remove my name from the listserv? How do I unsubscribe?
There are unsubscribe directions at the bottom of all listserv messages. To unsubscribe from seoulsisters, please send an email to listmistress@seoulsisters.org with the word "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
